TRAVEL

Summer is a busy time in Aspen. We recommend booking flights as far in advance of Summer Words as possible. Plan to arrive in Aspen by 5pm on Sunday, June 18. Orientation will begin at 5pm at our conference headquarters, The Gant, located in downtown Aspen. All workshops and most afternoon and evening events will also take place at The Gant. The final morning workshop will conclude at 12noon on Friday, June 23. Please plan your travel accordingly.

Air Travel

There is air service into Sardy Field, Aspen, located three miles from downtown Aspen and the conference center. Aspen is a half-hour flight from Denver International Airport via United Express, which offers at least 10 daily flights during the summer months. American Airlines offers direct service as well, with several flights a day.

If you are staying at The Gant, the hotel van can pick you up from the Aspen airport. Please call (970) 925-5000 to provide your flight information in advance.

Taxis are also available from the Aspen airport and it is roughly $25 for a ride into town. Call Mountain Taxi at 970-925-8294 or catch one outside the airport.

Since flights into the Aspen airport can be costly, you can also consider flying into Eagle County airport (1.5 hour drive from Aspen), Grand Junction airport (2.5 hour drive from Aspen), or the Denver airport (3.5 hour drive from Aspen).

Shuttle/Train Services

Colorado Mountain Express – We have partnered with the Aspen Institute and Colorado Mountain Express to provide discounted shuttle service from the Denver Airport to Aspen (and return). If traveling on June 18, plan to take the 12noon shuttle, which is the earliest shuttle from the Denver Airport to Aspen. This may mean that you are a few minutes late for orientation. Please let us know if you plan to take CME and we will give you the necessary orientation info once you arrive. When leaving on Friday, June 23, plan to take the 12:30pm shuttle back to Denver. Although travel time is usually 4 hours with CME, you should plan for the possibility of a 5 hour trip in case of construction or traffic. Make reservations at (800) 525-6363 or www.cmex.com. Please use the code “INSTITUTE” to receive the special rate of $99 one-way.  CME also offers shuttles from Eagle Airport and to various locations in the Aspen area.
