2013 Inaugural Poet Richard Blanco appeared in Aspen during the 2014 Winter Words season.

BIO

Richard Blanco was born in Madrid to Cuban exiled parents, and raised and educated in Miami. His first book, City of a Hundred Fires, received the prestigious Agnes Starrett Poetry Prize and his second book, Directions to The Beach of the Dead (2005), won the 2006 PEN Open Book Award. His most recent book of poetry, Looking for the Gulf Motel, was published in 2012. Hailed as “a moving, intimate memoir,” Blanco’s latest book, For all of Us, One Today, is a poetic memoir of his experiences as the 2013 Inaugural Poet. Blanco resides in Bethel, Maine where he writes and works as a consultant engineer.
